Project: "My latest book, a new and enriched biography of Thomas Jefferson
that incorporates all the up to date scholarly research, was published in
April 2007. In it, I have placed Jefferson in the context of slavery -on his
mountaintop and in his world. Setting Monticello at the center of my story,
I have attempted to bring to life a man who was born into a society in which
slavery was ubiquitous, and show how the institution of slavery resonated
throughout his life."

The Vermont Humanities Committee has chosen my book, A Restless Spirit:
the Story of Robert Frost as the book for their 2008 Vermont Reads
program. This is a state-wide one book community reading program that uses
young adult level literature to draw communities, schools, and libraries together
in reading, discussion, and activities based on one book. I will make presentations
in Woodstock on May 17, Middlebury on September 6, and Brattleboro on October
